“In 1989, I had the honor of hosting the very first Chicago DIFFA event at my Winnetka home.  A very diverse group of 400 designers and their clients and industry friends attended  from the house to under a big tent on the tennis court. Brazil was the theme, music was great and we had exotic birds in the garden room and a leopard  on the floor by the piano in the living room frightening Dorothy Donegan, the jazz piano player….. It was a great event but also with great sadness.  At the time, AIDS was devastating our industry and we were losing many of our most talented designers and friends!  We all wanted to help, but it felt very hopeless.  DIFFA offered hope and a way to openly talk about AIDS and inviting awareness and help.  I’m so proud of how our design industry responded to the AIDS crisis then and now almost 30 years later.” Holly Hunt
