What to Do With Your Old Furniture When You Move

If you’re moving to a new office, you’ll need to ensure you have a plan for your furniture. For instance, when you move to the new space, are you going to use the same furniture from your old space, or are you planning to do a re-brand and find new items? Ultimately, your office furniture has a set lifespan, which should definitely be one of your considerations when you’re planning your move.

Here are a few things that you can do with your furniture when you move to a new area.

Recycle

If your furniture is old and needs to be discarded or you’re planning a new style for your office in the new location, check your local laws for recycling and disposing of furniture to ensure that you comply with any rules. When recycling furniture, it will often be divided into either lumber, plastic, or metals, which will ensure that the furniture doesn’t just end up in a landfill. If you don’t specifically look into recycling rules, your furniture will just end up in a landfill where it will slowly decompose.

Resale

You can sell your old office furniture on places like Craigslist, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and other resources. There are also various third-party companies that will buy furniture from you to sell it to other companies in need, usually at cheaper price.

Donate

If you don’t want to sell your old furniture or don’t think that it will yield a lot of money and not worth the effort involved, you can always donate it to a charity of your choice. Local charities and nearby thrift stores usually take all sorts of furniture. Sometimes charities and thrift stores will come to your office and pick up the furniture as well.

Reuse

The office furniture can be reused in your new space and converted into different types of furniture. You can convert a file cabinet into a planter and give your space a green vibe, or you can combine filing cabinets into new types of desks or small tables. It’s a great opportunity to get really creative with how you decide to reuse your furniture. You’ll be able to provide your new space with a unique vibe or you can even paint old furniture to give it a fresh, new look.
